My children have really bad eczema. My Selah’s would get so bad in the winter sometimes she would just be miserable. I tried every type of cream, lotion, and steroid. I took her completely off of dairy. And that was hard, because the girl can down some yogurt. I tried just about everything. On her first birthday, a friend gave us this lotion as her present. It has been the only thing that clears up her eczema! My babies also have brown skin, so me loving them well is making sure their skin stays nice and moisturized.
Our pediatrician always comments on how nice their skin is and I can’t tell you how many African American friends give us complements. During one of Micah’s hospital stays, I ended up giving the nurse our lotion because she wouldn’t stop talking about how wonderful it was! Our pediatrician tells me I should bottle it up and sell it! But who has time for that?
I’m not crazy particular, but I definitely read ingredients before I put things on my kid’s skin. That’s what I love so much about this lotion, it’s completely made with all natural ingredients! Sometimes Selah will take a big lick and she says, “Oh, yummy, Mommy!” Toddlers…I can promise you she’s licked weirder things before! It is a little greasy, but dries super fast. If your little one has eczema or really dry skin, you’ll do just about anything to give them relief. I also will put it on scratches or scars and they will heal right up. And it makes the best present for baby showers. I’m telling you, you’re going to love it!
I buy all of these ingredients except the Lavender Essential Oil and Coconut Oil on Amazon. Trader Joe’s Coconut Oil is my absolute fav! I normally make enough for two containers. Using it every night, these containers will last me about two months. The great thing about buying the ingredients is you don’t have to buy them again for another three to six months! It’s so much cheaper than buying lotion in the store and much better quality.
So here’s what you need…
-2 cups Coconut Oil
-1 cup Shea Butter
-4 tablespoons of White Beeswax
-2 tablespoons of Vegetable Glycerin
-40-60 drops of Lavender Essential Oil (Make sure it’s therapeutic grade. I use Young Living.)
Directions:
In a small saucepan, melt the Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, and White Beeswax over medium heat. You do not have to bring it to a boil, but everything should be melted. Remove from the heat and add the Vegetable Glycerin and Lavender Essential Oil. Whisk briskly for a few minutes. Pour into containers, preferably glass since the mixture will be hot. Then I normally stick them in the freezer for about thirty minutes or until the mixture turns solid.
This literally takes me maybe ten minutes and that’s usually with a baby on my hip and my two year old running around the kitchen island. This is an easy and cheap way I can serve my children. And the results are sweet-smelling, eczema-free, kissable skin. I promise you’re going to love it! Try it out and let me know what you think!
And there you have it, friends! The best baby lotion ever!
